RIO HONDO
School Helps Rio Hondo
Student See Hilary Duff
|
Singer and actress Hilary
Duff rocked the Valley
Friday at Dodge Arena in
Hidalgo, helping to make it
a special night for a Rio
Hondo teenager.
Rio Hondo High School senior
Robert Villanueva received
an official sendoff from his
classmates after school
Friday.
“He loves Hilary,” said
Clare Kretz, Robert’s
teacher. “He loves all her
DVDs and everything.”
Robert was born with
cerebral palsy and one of
his wishes was to see Duff
perform.
On Friday, his dream came
true thanks to the help of
his teacher who sent an
e-mail to a local radio
station.
“Basically I asked, I don't
know if you guys can help us
out in the radio station,
but this is a young man who
for the last four years
really loves Hilary Duff,”
Kretz said. “He carries her
pictures all over this
table.”
Since Robert is wheelchair
bound, he needed a special
van to get to the concert.
His schoolmates raised some
money and arranged for the
transportation.
So Robert was able to say
goodbye to Rio Hondo and
hello to the Dodge Arena.
Robert said that he was
excited to be at the
concert. He is able to
communicate using hand
signals and through a
special tablet.
Just minutes away from
watching Duff perform,
Robert made a bet with his
teacher.
“Robert had a bet with me on
what outfit color (Duff) is
going to come out with and
he’s pointing to black. I
voted pink,” Kretz said. “I
said that if I lose and she
wears black, I'll have to
eat pureed food like he does
for a week.”
Duff performed in a black
T-shirt and jeans, which of
course meant that Robert won
the bet. |
