Hilary Duff has become more than just another star

That role spawned a chain of Lizzie merchandise, books, DVDs, CDs and a movie. There’s even a Hilary Duff mobile phone.

That fun stuff aside, Duff also sat on the Youth Advisory Committee of Kids With A Cause, a non-profit organisation of celebrity children working to help the less fortunate.

In Lizzie McGuire, Duff plays the popular adolescent who tackles the issues of life with her alter ego – an expressive mini cartoon of her.

The show also features a variety of characters which teens can relate to. Lizzie is the average girl-next-door who just wants to fit in. Her best friend, Miranda (LaLaine Vergas) is the cool girl who always stands up for Lizzie. Lizzie’s other close buddy is Gordo (Adam Lamberg), a brainy film-maker who has a crush on her.

Lizzie, however, is more attracted to her school’s heartthrob Ethan (Clayton Snyder), who’s a bit shallow at times. Ethan’s admirers also include Miranda and lots of other girls. The other interesting characters are Kate (Ashlie Brillault), a popular and nice cheerleader with a mean and nasty streak; and Larry (Kyle Downes), the geek who’s quite a looker when he dresses up.

Lizzie enjoys good guidance from her loving and understanding parents Jo McGuire (Hallie Todd) and Sam McGuire (Robert Carradine). Her little brother, Matt (Jake Thomas) is a creative and funny boy. Matt has a strange best friend, Lanny (Christian Copeli) a kid who rarely talks but cares a lot about his friends.

Today, Disney Channel is showing a 12-episode ‘I Love Lizzie’ marathon starting from 1.30pm. This includes five special episodes of ‘Lizzie’s Favourite Lizzies’, which are selected by Duff herself. After the 12-episode special, there’s the Asian TV premiere of The Lizzie McGuire Movie at 7.30pm.

The movie sees Lizzie and her pals on a trip to Italy. There, Lizzie is mistaken for a recording star. She later falls in love with the recording star’s handsome Italian boyfriend. A whole lot of funny and crazy situations follow, prompting Lizzie’s parents to fly off to Italy to try and bring her home.

Don’t miss this fun-filled adventure tonight at 7.30pm on Disney Channel (Astro Channel 61). For more information on Lizzie McGuire and other shows on Disney Channel, log on to http://www.disneychannel-asia.com.
